Parts of a flower

Click on the flower picture to investigate parts of a plant. Lots of fun.

Swimming

Blowing bubbles helps us get use to getting our face wet and breathe out in the water.

We used a noodle to help each other out of the water during water safety skills.

We had a race to see who could blow the floaties the fastest to the other side.

Number Sentences

Bonnie wrote her numbers entences using a tens frame

We made number sentences using a number line, then we chose to do a worksheet as well.

Eva made her number sentences using a tens frame

Pataitai Station Learning

One of our Pataitai Stations is scissor activities. We helped each other to trace around our bodies and then cut them out. They look just like our shadows. The tricky part was tracing and cutting out our fingers carefully.

Fuzzy Playing Hide n Seek

Fuzzy has been hiding in different parts of our classroom. We took turns sneaking around to find him and take his photo. He was in the funniest places. See if you can work out where he was hiding.

Learning about Positional Language

We are learning about positional language.

Who is climbing up the ladder?

How many steps did they climb?

Where is Archie?

Who is under the wheel?

Who is on top of the pirate ship?

Where do you think Jack is going?

What is Will about to do?

What is Melody trying to do?

Pataitai Learning

During Pataitai time at the nature discovery table there is a big basket of shells for us to make an art display.

Zavier and Archie worked for an hour to order all of the shells from biggest to smallest and in order of smoothness, shape and colour. When they had finished their line they added detail by making tentacles hanging off the line to make an octopus. What a great imagination boys and a whole lot of learning.
Tu meke!!

Our Magic Bean

Our inquiry learning focus this term is all about what plants do. After reading the story of Jack and the Bean stalk we decided to plant our own magic beans to see what they will grow into. We discussed what seeds need to grow to make sure our magic bean would survive and grow up big and strong.
We are using our imagination to think about all the diffent things our magic bean could grow into. We can't wait to see what they will look like. Do you have an idea?
Please leave a comment for us to read.

Patterns in Maths

One of the stations we can choose at maths time is 'shapes'. We experiment with different attribute foam shapes. Sometimes we can fit them together to make a picture, sometimes we work together to make the longest shape and sometimes we like to make tessellations. Fuzzy also joins in because he has great listening skills.

Tick Tock

We have been learning about time. Today we made huge clocks with hula hoops. We worked together in small groups to write the numbers and put them on our clock the correct way. The best part was helping each other, the tricky part was remembering the spaces between our letters so they went all the way around the clock. Heaps of learning and discussion.

Billy Makes the South Island

At Pataitai stations we are able to use playdough to fill in the map to make landscapes. Billy made the landscape of the South Island of New Zealand. He is pointing to where Wanaka is.

Our Library Visits

We love going to the library.

Our Librarian, Pip is very cool. She dressed like a skatie dude for Chad's book launch last Friday. She loves books as much as we do.
The best part of library time is sharing the books we are reading with our friends. We are learning about the library rules because the library is a very special place for people who love reading.

Cross Country

Cross Country Run on PhotoPeach

The track went 500m uphill and down. Our training really showed how you can improve over time. Children who could only walk most of the way were able to run to a fantastic finish on the day. All children in room 2 can very very proud of their achievements reaching a place in the race or their achieving own personal best. Well done!
Special congratulations to Millie who came first, Archie who came third and Zavier who came fifth. Super runners!!!

Throwing and Catching

We have been working on some strategies to help us throw a ball to someone safely and to catch the ball. Evie said she was very proud of the first time she was able to catch the ball. We had to help each other to make sure we had success. It was awesome!!

Hot Kiwi Chips!

As part of our inquiry we continue learning about things special to NZ. We used some Maori potatoes to make some hot chips. They were purple and looked very different. Most of us were brave enough to try them but some were not so sure. Would you try them?

Mapping New Zealand

During Pataitai time we can use playdough to make landscapes filling in the outline of the New Zealand Map. We then have to put the person where we think Wanaka is.

Buddies

On Wednesdays we have buudy time. Our Year 5 buddies read us stories and spend time with us making or doing different things. Soemtimes we just read to each other but other days we play sports, make craft things, write stories, or investigate something to do with inquiry learning.
Buddy time has proven to be very valuable in assisting in settling new children to school, having more familiar faces to approach in the playground.
Skills we get include security in knowing more people in the playground, respect from others, recognising children as teachers.
Skills the seniors get include practise in introducing themselves to others, how to read to someone else, prepare for a lesson, give clear instructions, communicate effectively, how to socialise appropriately with other children, how to teach and then reflect on their experiences.

It is a very special time in the week that we all value immensely.
