Technology Whizz!!

Technology continues to be a very popular and effective way to teach in our classrooms. There are endless supplies of interactive stories, activities, games on the web. Our interactive whiteboards provide limitless supply of teaching possibilities. Children are so engaged in this style of learning they problem solve and share knowledge with each other on a regular basis in class, mostly without a teacher.

Learning from each other

One of our Pataitai Stations is the Vet Clinic. It is our caring and sharing place where we learn to care for others, ask questions and self manage by sharing, talking nicely to each other and taking turns. It is amazing to observe from a distance how they become so involved in their roles. It creates a great sense of community in our pod.

Eating our Numbers

There are so many different ways we can learn. On Friday we made numbers out of bread dough. It was hard work making the long rope of dough with our hands and then we had to make the numbers look the right way around. It is sort of like writing them too. The best part, of course, was eating our numbers

Celebrating our learning at assembly

We began our assembly singing a song to celebrate the letter c. We played our ukelele on the chord of c and sung 'c is for cookie' by the cookie monster. It is our favourite song at the moment. For our inquiry learning, investigating night and day, we created our own nocturnal animals. We had to find out how animals survive in the dark and look at the features they need. We made our own nocturnal animal and wrote some fantastic stories about them. It is very scary for us to get up infront of five other classrooms and all of the parents and family. We were brave and we did our best. We are very proud of ourselves and it felt really good afterwards.

Our Snowy School

It is winter and it is cold. Sometimes when you look out the window there is ice on the grass. Joshua found a leaf stuck in the ice and he smashed on the ice to break it. The ice was cold! "You cannot go in puddles because of the ice and you could slip" said Jack. You can slide on the ice. "It is fun" said Ella, but many other people said it can be dangerous because you can hurt yourself. Your toes feel numb and tingly when you go outside. It looks really pretty though.
